[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="280" caption="it was 29.99 now a litte bit more - well worth it though..."][/caption] So it dawned on me this afternoon as i sat in my study snowed in. I may well have lived most of my waking life in front of a computer screen. My kids are definitely screen agers and to entertain themselves this afternoon as they also were snowed in - they decided to make a film. So a 9 year old was narrator, an 8 year old was chief prop agent and a…

It felt a little like the end of the world yesterday. For 40 minutes every search anyone tried brought up an error message. The first thought that crossed my mind was that my wife had broken the internet - she has had a run of technical disasters lately including - washing her mobile phone, deconstructing our camera etc. But although it was my wife that discovered the fault it wasn't her fault. The second thought was that it was the beginning of the end - just like seeing the sun…

The guardian reports that googles hush hush street level mapping car crashed into a deer as it made its stealthy way along a road in upstate New York. I guess this is a demonstration that objectivity is impossible - that the observer and the observed necessarily interact with one another. Apparently the deer limped off after the police were alerted - perhaps it was trying to keep a low profile. Google has had a bit of an ungreen few weeks after an article described that a two searches on google…

News just in - Obama can keep his blackberry - infact someone is charging him over £2400 to update his security so he can keep it. From the looks of this photo from the guardian. he is still using a pretty old model - perhaps they will enter the Whitehouse with a nice BOLD or STORM. I am gradually coming to terms with the fact that IPHONE is not going to be part of my life. But hey if the "Leader of the Free World" can make do with a…

I have been using my digital camera to capture video clips of my kids. But it dawned on me as I finally got round to editting some of it that I was going to be looking back on these relatively low quality clips one day and wish that I had invested in a proper camcorder. So I have been doing some research and here's what i have come up with: HD vs Standard Quality There's little point in buying trailing edge technology at the moment. Even looking back at old…

My son the games expert has now entered the world of political lobbying and ad buys. Here is quite a fun political satire. You can choose if you want to be a democrat or a republican and then you are in charge of the ad buying air time as you battle for the various regions of the USA. The players animate on a map of the USA as they either swipe at eachother or hack eachother's characters. Have a go... Game. Alternatively you might want to take a look at…

Publishers have been fearing for a long time that a device that did for books what the ipod did for music is coming. The Amazon Kindle is one attempt to do this. Following the Ipod Model the device is produced by a company that is seeking to provide the content. You can download books from Amazon to use on your new machince. Using i-ink technologies here is a way to take a library with you where ever you go. I am not sure if the kindle has a back light…
