Adoption Sunday Pilot

We are running an “Adoption Sunday” event on Sunday 4th of November aimed at churches in Oxford. This is trial for a national role out in 2013. But if your church would like to join in – we’d love to have your help. Adoption Sunday is an opportunity to let the whole church engage with the fact that there are 4000 children waiting to be adopted and 8000 more foster placements needed. We believe the church needs to play its part in helping to meet this need. We need to encourage churches to support and encourage foster and adoptive parents and also we are praying that God will prompt more people from the church to consider putting themselves forward for fostering or adoption.

All the things you need to run an adoption Sunday are included in the pack.

  • Worship song suggestions
  • Service interactivity
  • Interview questions
  • Liturgy (from Engage Worship)
  • Model sermon
  • Small group ideas
  • Ideas for children’s activities
  • There’s also some Oxford specific material.

We will soon have a video that you will be able to download available too. But in case we have forgotten something do let us know.

Press here to download the pack.

If your church is going to do anything for adoption Sunday – even saying our adoption sunday prayer or interviewing someone in your church – do leave me a message on the comments below as this will really help us as we talk to press and media. If you could snap a few photos on the day that would help too. November 4th has been specifically chosen because it is the day before National Adoption Week so there will be opportunity for media coverage the rest of that week.

Thanks for your partnership: together we can make a real difference to children’s lives.

After hearing about your Adoption Sunday idea we’ve purposefully arranged our church celebration for adopting our daughter on that day (we had our celebration hearing at court yesterday).

We plan to use some of your material during our service.

brilliant Nick – remind of your church’s name please – hope it goes really well. If you could grab some pictures that Sunday it would be great!

I’m really excited about Adoption Sunday. We will be meeting our daughter for the first time next week and we have already adopted her brother.

I’m planning on using your service pack not only to celebrate our own family being complete but to encourage others within our local church.

Krish, it’s Orphan Sunday, not adoption Sunday. As you said it doesn’t only focus on adoptions but fostering as well, and how the church can get involved.

Hi pat thanks for your comment, we decided to tie our Sunday in with national adoption week and to step away from the word orphan because most of the children in care are not orphans.

Hi Krish – love this – I have already planned an adoption sunday event in our Church on October 21st. So just a couple of weeks before. Just wondering if you will have the short film available by then. I’ve already got someone from the council coming to speak and we’re going to look at being adopted into God’s family as our reading, and sermon. But love the service resource this is just super.
