Great ideas for churches to make the most of Christmas

1. Christmas Card CD

beacon Beacon have put together an excellent Charity Christmas Card CD . For only £0.70 a card you get a quality album of Christmas carols played in some really good acoustic folk arrangements with musicians from Shetland.

You can listen to some samples here.

Money raised from the cards goes towards Beacon’s work in Scotland in Glenochil High Security prison, where they run twice weekly fellowship groups. But also their work in the rehabilitation of ex-prisoners by providing furniture and other “start up” materials for men starting afresh on “the outside”.

2. Advent Calender

The guys at the goodbook company have put together a fun way to help children understand the meaning of christmas. So although there are no chocolates in this calendar there is a gift of a bible verse behind each window. There’s also some follow up material that parents can use with their children at bedtime.

3. Short evangelistic books for giving away at Christmas:

here are some suggestions of booklets to have available when caroling, at Christmas services or even to put in a Christmas card to send to a friend.

The Promise of Christmas, Jeff Lucas.
This is the newest book in this list. It is a short book exploring the meaning of Christmas, it’s bang up to date addressing the issue of the credit cruch etc.

Why Christmas – Nicky Gumble

Recently revamped to match the new Alpha styling. It’s classic Gumble explaining the Christian message.

J.John – More than a Christmad Carol

with brightly coloured illustrations both visually and literally this is a nice give away to friends and family.
